A smaller U lock sounded like a weird idea at first because you'll have a harder time to lock your bike or scooter to things due to the shorter distance it can cover, but in the end it actually makes a lot of sense. The problem with larger U locks is usually that if you do not lock at the correct spot on your scooter or bike, someone can potentially just pull the locked lock up through the handlebars. Now with this, it is most definitely too short to allow such maneuvers.And this lock is solid. Despite the small size it is really heavy. The crossbar appears to be all plastic with a rubber pad on the interior face of the lock, the weight indicates that it is still solid metal inside.With regards to the size, yes it does fit in a lot of rear pant pocket but I kind of wish it had a mounting system provided because it is pretty heavy after all. You could however hang it across on the handlebar. But it is nice that they include 4 sets of keys.Finally, although the version I have reviewed is a single lock set, what is really nice with what Via Velo is doing is that they provide multi-lock sets that all use the same key. This means that you can have the whole family be able to handle bikes or scooters locked with any of the locks. This really helps prevent situations where nothing can be done because a key is lost, or not being able to move something until someone else is back. Just a little funny when at the time of writing the double lock set is more expensive than two of the single lock set.But overall, this is an excellent little U lock good for electric scooters among other things but still can be useful for bicycles also, just a little harder to reach sometimes.

The Via Velo Mini U-Lock is a beefy lock that is better suited for electric scooters than it is for bikes. The gap is only 145mm, which is large enough for many scooters against a vertical rack, but not large enough or versatile for a bike. Not to mention this lock doesn't include a separate steel cable, which is typically used to secure the wheels on your bike. The U lock is heavy duty at 16mm and the lock part is massive at 44mm in diameter making it a bit unwieldly to carry. The lock does not come with an e-scooter or bike mount of any sort. Despite the description stating the lock is pocketable, it won't fit in your pocket unless you have cargo pants. But then the lock is quite heavy to keep in your pocket so you'll need to have a bag or backpack when carrying this lock. It does include 3 keys, which is great. Overall, the Via Velo lock is a heavy duty U-Lock that should offer the best protection for your e-scooter, but is quite bulky and heavy and has not mounting options.
