Through the woods

The stories mostly seem like folk tales, despite being original (?). They are simple and often a bit pointless like real folk tales are, but there are also obvious depths and teachings if you want to look.the illustrations are also deceptively simple and match the stories well.this seems like a book worth buying and reading again to me.

We read this book for a University Class and I am so glad we did. It's lovely and haunting. The imagery is beautiful and complements the stories very well. To me the stories are a mixture of gothic horror and poetic tone, and yet they still have a scary campfire story feel to them which I LOVE.I look forward to reading more from Emily Carroll.

Amazing stories, amazing paintings, amazing work

Graphic novel di grande qualità. A livello grafico il tratto è curato pur offrendo l'impressione di uno sketch, colori vividi come tracciati con pastello. Anche il comparto drammatico è molto buono, le storie sono brevi ma efficaci, talvolta lanciano un brivido lungo la schiena. Sono molto soddisfatto dall'acquisto di questa graphic novel.

Es recomendable conocer lo básico del inglés para entender enteramente las historias, eso de primeras.Emily Carroll nos trae con Through the Woods varias historias parecidas a los creepypastas con un toque diferente. Algunas historias te dejaran con un final abierto y quedaras con una duda o con alguna idea de que pudo haber pasado, armaras y finalizaras tu la historia dependiendo la información que tu recogiste de la historia (aunque probablemente debamos fijarnos mas en los detalles gráficos)Tiene un arte inigualable, magnífico y único, y aunque odio las comparaciones, cada historia me daba añoranza y recuerdos a Over the Garden Wall, con esto ya se podrán imaginar la calidad.Los dibujos son sencillos, bonitos y tienen una extraña y bonita relación con el tipo de historia que se cuentan, es increíble. Yo adquirí la versión de pasta blanda y esta tiene relieve y texturas en las ramas de la portada un detalle del cual estoy bastante sorprendido.No dudes en adquirirlo.

This was a great read, and its a book on my shelf that I revisit fairly frequently - I would definitely recommend if you have a soft spot for the creepy. Each tale is intriguing in its own way and, although short, leave a larger impact than you would expect. My personal favourites are probably His Face All Red and Nesting Place. The rhythm in the language gave the stories an old, fairy-tale like feel. The artwork is fantastic. Emily Carroll has a distinct style and knows exactly how to create atmosphere with colour and light, at times the artworks melding with the black panelling around them to create deep shadows and the silhouettes of horrible creatures.Probably not good for young children, but this definitely seems like the kind of thing I would have enjoyed when I was a little older, and something I enjoy I lot now as an adult!

Eccezionale dalla prima all'ultima pagina. I disegni sono fantastici e ricchi di atmosfera aiutati anche da una colorazione molto azzeccata. Trame poco impegnative ma sempre interessanti e .."nooo..ahaha! WOW!"

Ho comprato questo volume come regalo di natale, quindi non l'ho letto, ma è un bellissimo oggetto ed è arrivato davvero in fretta e in ottime condizioni.

Through the Woods ist die erste Graphic Novel, die ich jemals gelesen habe. Ich lese zwar seit geraumer Zeit sehr gerne Mangas, aber irgendwie haben mich Graphic Novels nie so wirklich angesprochen, wahrscheinlich, weil ich mir etwas anderes darunter vorgestellt habe. Emily Carrolls Through the Woods ist mir aber immer wieder begegnet. Zuerst im Internet, dann auf Goodreads, bei Youtube...und irgendwann dachte ich mir: KOMM ZU MIR, MEIN SCHATZ. Nach Weihnachten habe ich es also endlich gewagt und mir das gute Stück gegönnt - Gute Entscheidung!Der ganze Stil von Emily Carroll ist einfach nur der Oberhammer...ihre Art zu zeichnen, zu skizzieren, die Farben zu benutzen...einfach WOW! Ich konnte mich nicht satt sehen. Dabei ist die Graphic Novel eher düster gehalten, spielt mit Tönen wie Rot, Weiß, Schwarz oder Blau...das ist natürlich super für die Atmosphäre: Purer Horror.Wer Horrorfilme, Blut und Mord und richtige Grausamkeit nicht abkam, der sollte echt die Finger hier von lassen. Die fünf Kurzgeschichten folgen alle einer schaurigen und teilweise schockierendem Erzählung, die einen echt das Fürchten lehren kann. Das sage ich euch jetzt als hart gesonnene Person xDMein Favorit war eindeutig "A Lady's Hands are Cold", denn das Lied und die Bilder daraus spuken noch immer in meinem Kopf herum. Ich werde definitiv wieder zu der Geschichte greifen und sie immer wieder lesen. Aber auch die anderen Geschichten waren wirklich sehr gut. Ich war fasziniert, ich hab mich gefürchtet, ich habe gebannt die Seiten angestarrt...auch, wenn viele der Short Stories eher offen enden, so haben sie mir wirklich alle ausnahmslos gefallen. Manche waren besser, als andere, aber keine davon war in irgendeiner Weise schlecht. Und von welcher Sammlung kann man das schon sagen? Normalerweise gefällt einem ja immer irgendetwas nicht.Ich würde die Graphic Novel auf jeden Fall jedem empfehlen, der etwas Unheimliches, Düsteres und Packendes möchte, das mit dem Verstand spielt!
