Ürün defolu bir şekilde geldi. Kitabın dört bir yanı katlanmıştı. Aynı şekilde sayfalarda da bir sürü iz vardı.

I would suggest you disregard the review below . It would have put me off but this is a sensitive fast paced and magical novel by a brilliant storyteller. Adoption features minimally and crucially to put it into context it is set over 100 years ago. The novel is everything you would want in a children’s book, engaging unconventional and interesting characters, exciting and sometimes a little frightening adventures and it has something beautiful to say about alternative family set ups and the power of friendship . My nine and five year old love this book.

I read chapters of this book to my grandchildren ages 8 and 10 via FaceTime since I could not safely travel to see them. They loved the story. The cliffhangers at the end of the chapters made them excited to hear from me each day. I felt the need to counter the negative reviews of this book from people who were offended at the title and did not actually read the book. It’s important to note that the story takes place in Amsterdam in 1880, and is not as adoption is viewed in 2020. Five exceptional children in an orphanage formed tight bonds with each other and wanted to stay together. The book never suggests they are unadoptable. The only person who called them unadoptable was the orphanage matron. She had been an orphan herself who was mistreated and never adopted, and she became a cruel, controlling and selfish adult. The children are all portrayed as talented, smart, caring, resourceful, and lovable. When the matron arranges a wretched adoption placement for them as punishment for their pluckiness, they have a harrowing escape and have a series of adventures before eventually becoming a family with a caring adult. It is a heartwarming tale, yet filled with obstacles and some mystical elements. There’s humor, too. I also really liked the nonsexist roles of the characters. The oldest boy Sem is a talented seamstress. Lotta is an amazing mathematician. The strengths of each child are celebrated, and together they are incredible!
