The surface is soft but tough, about 0.08 inches thick. It’s thinner than mats I’ve used before. Personally, I prefer something a bit thicker, but this one still feels durable and lightweight.What I really love is the size—27.6 x 15.7 inches. It’s much bigger than standard soldering mats and easily covers my whole workbench. Really impressed with this mat.I was dubious about some others I saw for sale, but this one is a great size, nice and thick and definitely no issues with creases.I got a a 70cm by 40cm mat and it sits nicely on my 160cm by 60cm workbench.Note that I bought this purely for mechanical work, not electrical. It clearly had static on it as I unrolled it and there’s no features for connecting grounding chords. I could tell that from the other reviews so I’m rating it purely as I intend to use it.4 star due to misleading description only

The stench from this article is from the silicone material breaking down chemically, which literally left me with a bad chemical taste in my mouth, heavily polluted air and a headache after less than 15 minutes of use, I was forced to abandon my repair and instead return the mat.

I have a great soldering kit that I use periodically for repairs and personal projects. I am looking to completely clean/ refurbish and replace all the capacitors in a vintage Pioneer SX1080 stereo amplifier, that will be quite an involved project. I’m also planning on building some copper tensor rings and copper pyramids that will require brazing with a torch. This mat is perfect to work over for my intended uses.I’ve been needing a bigger mat/ work space to solder over. Previously I have only had a small metal plate that has magnetic alligator clips to hold small parts. That works very well, but it is only about 8”x10”, so there is not a lot of space to work over. Having this large silicone soldering mat is great for having plenty of space to work over and not being concerned with solder getting over my nice work bench. It works great on top of the workbench and then the metal plate with magnetic alligator clips is a perfect set up for my soldering requirements. Easy to roll out over the workbench and then roll it up when needing to use the bench for other work.I also really like that there are little grouped sections in the top section of the mat that keeps small parts and hardware organized and prevents them from rolling away.This is a great option for a soldering workspace mat, glad to finally have adequate an adequate sized soldering work surface.
