It was definitely necessary to change the treads on the stairway going to the basement, there isn't even a comparison to the old ones. Every time we update/make repairs, we find something astonishing and/or dangerous that the previous owners did to this house.Thankfully, the new treads were easy to install with just a quick cleaning and we also sanded a bit just to make sure there was good adhesion. They are large enough to go from end to end of each stair. One box was enough for all stairs. I even had treads left over and I have never been able to find enough treads to fit my stairwells in just one box. That's a great deal. They are NICELY textured and they look good, but they are thin enough so that I don't trip over them. They also don't budge and I moved around a lot just to be sure. We did apply some light heat with a hair dryer, and they will bond even more thoroughly over time. They actually look nice enough to use just about anywhere.Lucky me! When I went to pull up the old remaining stair treads, I found they were actually nailed into the stairs... More like long, sharp, tiny tacks. Somehow the old treads were slipping anyway.I've actually been scared to go down these stairs especially with an arm load of laundry. I'm so glad this was an easy fix and a budget-friendly one.
