This review is for "STAEDTLER Polymer Modelling Clay - FIMO Professional - Oven Bake Clay - True Colours Pack of 6 x 57g Blocks - 6 Assorted Colours, 8043 C6-1."I do enjoy using FIMO modelling clay, and this small set lives up to expectations for quality. The real benefit of using this instead of air-dry clay is that it stays moldable for much longer, and then when it is time to make the model permanent, it can be quickly dried out in a low oven for thirty minutes plus extra time for cooling off. You will need a set of tools to get the most of this, unless you like rolling things by hand into balls and tubes and flat shapes. As with all FIMO, the white can be mixed with other colours to brighten the shade a little. Personally I never get the results I want when trying to mix two colurs together, as everything seems to turn out brown !The price for this set at the time of review was around £13, normally £19. It is the best brand I know, and you do have to pay a bit extra for it.

This is a handy starter-set of Fimo clay blocks in the Professional range, wich tends to have more pigment in and be a little firmer than the standard Fimo range. This makes it easier to sculpt fine detail and to maintain clean colour separation when combining different colours. If you do need to mix them they combine well with five minutes of kneading, and aside from most colours having a percentage of white as their base, they mix reasonably reliably (as in, red and blue are going to produce a lilac/purple, and not a muddy brown). The colour also remains true after baking, meaning that the colour you mix is the colour that is there after firing. The blue and the green bars in this kit are perhaps a little white-heavy, so you're not going to get any darker tones or true blues, but as a starter set, they have a red, a blue, a yellow and a white. I would have preferred a black to the green, particularly since there's an included colour chart which requires black to mix many of the colours, making it an odd (or perhaps a purposeful?) ommision. If you were buying this as your basic set, I'd suggest that you buy black in addition to it, but what you have here is a good start.Fimo is reasonably easy to work with, if a little spongey when sculpting. As I mentioned it's a little firmer than standard Fimo, so you can often get away with no internal support at all (just a few bits of crushed tinfoil to lean up against it and support it whilst it bakes). You get six bars for a few pence short of £19, so you're saving a little money by buying in a pack like this, as opposed to buying individually. It wouldn't be enough to tempt me to buy this instead of buying the colour I wanted, but as a starter set it's good value. The omission of a black bar of clay takes its score down a star, I'm afraid. But other than that, it works well.

Fimo professional is a firmer type of Fimo clay, particularly designed for fine detailed work, such as filagree and jewellery work. This set provides their range of true colours that can be confidently mixed to produce any colour.Having worked with colour and colour theory a lot as a student, I am quite impressed by this selection and its possibilities. Many people make the mistake of thinking any red and any yellow will produce a bright, clean orange, but this isn't the case. A red sitting towards the blue end of the range of reds will introduce some blue into the orange you're mixing, and produce a "dirtier" orange (blue being opposite to orange on the colour wheel), and this set, with its accompanying, detailed mixing guide, not only helps users achieve the exact shade they're looking for by providing TRUE colours that are not adulterated by hints of other primary colours that affect results when mixed, but also help users expand their understanding of colour mixing. The clay itself is lovely to work with, and easy to achieve very delicate results. At £18.95 for the set, these cost little over £3 per pack, which is excellent value compared to the individual pack prices.

I ordered this polymer clay to hopefully get back into making clay models, which I haven't done for some time. This is a selection of 6 colours, and each one comes in a generous sized block, each one is also individually sealed to prevent them drying out. This is the first time I've used this brand, although its commonly thought of as the primary brand, and I can see why, it softens easily and is generally very easy to work with. I have had none cracking and no other issues, and I am more than happy to recommend it.
