This is a low cost but very capable handheld Ham transceiver I think it over capable, but more of this later. I have awarded it only three stars because although it does everything advertised, it does not do them easily. Nor is it particularly "Long Range". Generalising naturally, for VHF/UHF range is a function of power and antenna. I am ignoring repeaters here. I have removed one star because of excessive complexity. Even after a couple of months I still need to continuously refer to the instruction manual to achieve the results I know are possible. Both my Icom and Baofeng handhelds are so much easier.I have also removed another star because the manual is abysmal. It is physically tiny. The contents are in a micro miniaturised font. The explanations are unduly badly presented. I ended up scanning the pages and printing them out - but there is a disturbing limit to the degree of enlargement possible. Authors, with more patience than me, have published how-to books about the complexities of other makes of Chinese radios. A similar book is desperately needed for this one.I think the biggest problem with all tiny hand held radios, with vast numbers of functions, is there is not real estate to place all controls. This means functionality is achieved through a system of nesting menus. Working my way through endless menus on this radio meant getting lost in a mental maze. I have occasionally reached a dead end and had no option but to switch off and start again. Just a tree diagram, or three, in the instructions, would have helped.It is just my opinion, but there is no real need to include AM/FM and air band functionality in a handheld radio like this. Mods.dk is full of hacks; it is trivially easy to implement so I suspect inclusion is down to marketing.Without a considerably better manual it would be hopeless for a new amateur to try and get to grips with this radio. At the same time, an amateur with sufficient experience would probably have other and better handhelds. Simplification and a much better manual would be the answer.
