Cable tester that does as it says. I brought it to use on a short tour and it survived and is now part of my main tool kit when working on live events/theater. It has survived a fair amount of use and a few drops along the way. I would say it stands up against the other more expensive cable testers but with the added bonus of being able to test nearly all cables I use regularly.Something potential buyers might find useful to know is that you CAN use it to test adapters for example XLR to MONO or TRS Jack! It will also show you how those adapters have been wired by showing on the lights which pins have been bridged! The one slight annoyance Iv found is the battery holder in the back. Occasionally after being in the tool kit or put down maybe too hard on to a desk the batteries come out just enough to not turn on. This is easily sorted by unscrewing the back plate and pushing them back in. I plan on attaching a small piece of foam or possibly wood to the inside of the cover to keep them in but that's just me! In all honestly its hasn't happened that much or become that much of a problem as I haven't done it yet!.

Prodotto solido che fa il suo dovere.L'unico difetto che ho riscontrato è che il portellino del vano delle batterie è dotato di vite piccolissima che va tolta ogni volta che si introducono o tolgono le batterie.

Great tester! Very complete and easy to use. If you find it complicated it is because you may lack experience in cable repair. Can't say it enough, VERY easy to use. Tested it with most of the connectors for the past few weeks and i can say it is great. It helps me a lot with XLR and 1/4" cables in musical building renting practice room to bands so lots of those cables come along with many different problems. It is a great and fast troubleshooting device. It is definitely worth every penny if you plan on using it often. Sturdy and well built, you can try to move connectors hard enough to check for problems. There's not much of those devices on the market and it is not worth building your own considering the price of this one so don't hesitate.

There's a lot of good functionality built into this unit. It has pretty much the widest variety of connectors that I've seen on any cable tester. There are two of each connector: for each pair one is an "output" and one is an "input" connector. Output connectors transmit a funny digital test signal, and the input connectors detect this signal and display the results (of which pins on one end of the cable are attached to which pins on the other) on the LED matrix. You attach one end of a cable to any output connector and the other end to any input connector -- so you can have different connectors on each end of the cord.o You can test a cable with different connectors on the ends.o There is a row of "intermittent" LEDs next to the matrix. You connect a cable, press the reset button, the wiggle the cable. If any of the wires are intermittent the corresponding LED will light. You can repeat this at will to track down a problem spot.o There is a built-in tone generator. It generates a reasonably clean squarewave at either 440 or 1,000 Hz. There's a slide switch that selects one of three volume levels, but the output levels are not quite correct: The peak-to-peak output levels are: "-50MIC"=> 280mV (I think about 28mV would be more realistic), "-10dBV => 3.0V (should be 0.9V), +4dBu => 3.2V (this is about right).o There is a way to test for shorts in a cable.o There is a way to test cables where the far end can't be plugged into the tester: you short pins on the other end then test for shorts.o The two pins on the side labeled "SPEAKON" are banana jacks, but are not the standard 3/4" apart so can't be used for testing dual banana plugs.o The LED matrix can only test three pins at a time. So if you are testing a cable with a plug that has more than three pins (e.g a MIDI or an ethernet plug) then there's a workaround: The mysterious slide switch that is not described in the manual and whose positions are labeled "SW1", "SW2" and "SW3" is used for this. The first position lets you test the first three pins of a connector, the second position lets you test the second three pins, and the third position lets you test the third set of three pins.o The LED matrix looks identical to the one on the Behringer CT100 cable tester. The two units look identical except this one has way more connectors. I can't believe but that they're the same design and made in the same factory, so I'd buy this one because it tests more connector types.o The instructions (which are printed on the box) don't mention that you need to install two AA batteries.o The box is painted steel, made with reasonable precision, with some scuff marks. The PC boards inside are clean and well-soldered. There are some mechanical hacks in the construction: for example some of the connectors have plastic parts crudely trimmed off to fit, and the sliders of the slide switches have been partly clipped off to make them fit through the narrow, short slots through which they protrude. I get the impression of these being built by a garage-type operation, but none of these things looks like they would affect reliability or longevity. I'm confident this will be a rugged and long-lasting tool.
