Exact fit for a Stihl MS170 with .043" PMM3 chain. Well made. Fast delivery. About half the cost of the Stihl bar, which my Stihl dealer didn't have in stock, anyway

I purchased this bar for my Stihl 192T primarily because it was half the price of the Stihl bar. I could not get a chain to go into the bar groove. In measuring the groove, I found that it varied between .030" and .0375". (not the proper .043") After 1/2 hour of scraping the paint from inside the groove I could force a chain onto the bar. I installed it & fired up my saw. The chain would not move. The only result was Smoke billowing from the clutch. I removed the bar & chain & spent another 1/2 hour with a scraper, file and sandpaper removing paint from the groove. Reassembled the bar & chain & fired up the saw. The chain actually moved this time (albeit slowly). After about 10 to 12 seconds at full throttle the chain sped up somewhat, but I still got quite a bit of smoke. I again disassembled the bar & chain, (finding them both to be very hot) and resumed cleaning out the groove. A half hour later, I could get the chain to slide in the bar by hand. Reassembled everything & fired up the saw with the oldest, most worn chain I could find. The chain appeared to move much more freely, but stopped instantly when I let off the throttle. 15 seconds at full throttle still heated the bar & chain to the point where they could not be touched with a bare hand. Two lessons learned from this experience were: 1.) Powder coat is tough as hell. 2.) A bargain is not worth the $$ saved if it requires hours of modification to achieve a half way mode of acceptance. I'll use this bar (in 15 to 20 second bursts) & continue to work on it in the hope that it will some day "wear in". Thankfully I have other saws to use until then!
