The seperate USB4 module is a very bad idea, it wabbles a lot.

I am posting this review to let other linux users know what amazon did for me, and why its great/awesome/wonderful. My only regret is this specific seller/vendor is out of stock, and some of the OTHER random eGPUs floating around in 2025, are based on TB-3 chipsets manufactured in 2015. Buyer beware!1. OS: Fedora 40 linux, kernel 6.11, free and open source operating system, Nvidia driver ver 560.35.033. my specific cpu + main RAM are not important. Just have Thunderbolt-4 ports on your kit. No Occulink here.4. Nvidia RTX _3060_ (12GB of vRAM) (Amazon Black Friday special)5. ANTEC Earth silent ATX 650w psu (has qty 2 8pin PCIe connectors, if you have a thirsty 2-input-6+8 pin card like some nvidia cards)6. Amazon's Black Friday special 6 foot 240w 40Gbps Thunderbolt-4 cable, so I can locate it out of earshot.buy 40Gbps certified Thunderbolt-4 cables. Dont cheap out here with the lowest price option. If you think USB-4 and TB-4 are the same protocol, go back to school.7. Amazon's Black Friday special 240watt/volt/amp inline meter, a USB-C plug-in/inline meterthe Orara eGPU has a green LED if your power supply [ from wall-socket to Thunderbolt-eGPU ] link is good,and there is a separate blue LED if your [ Thunderbolt-eGPU to Thunderbolt-host ] link is good.as far as instructions and documentation goes, the Orara eGPU is a cut above. small font, but clear printing, instructions only in English(dont waste everybodys time by trying to print the instructions in 7 languages in a 5pt font). You will need to watch the 2m:22s video in the 7th square of the product, its decent/good but not enough. The instructions above do not cover the yellow jumper (which is needed for DC power setups). They give you a few extra screws (7 for me), but do not bother telling you that (why do I have extra screws?), and I needed 1 more of the tinyiest-diameter one, which I had to source from my own collection.Be aware your specific RTX nvidia card may be short/stubby/fat card, 200mm in length, 100mm high, 35mm wide with 2 fans. or you could get a triple fan, 275mm in length, 100mm high, and 40mm wide card. The longer cards may cause your eGPU to flop over. There is no 'foot locking clip' like on a true motherboard.Thunderbolt-4 cable is rated for 240w, and my inline meter says I never come near that./usr/bin/nvidia-smi says RTX 3060 is using 44w and taps out at 170w thru this eGPU dock+cable.There might be better combinations if your criteria is PERFORMANCE, but this was a mixed bag of what hardware I already owned, and how much is in the budget, and what was available for purchase RIGHT NOW with 3-day delivery from amazon.I recommend the forum 'egpu.io' if you want to connect with, or at least read the trials & tribulations of other eGPU users and enthusiasts. Its one of the places I did research before I bought anything, which I found all this stuff on amazon.ORARA Mini eGPU Enclosure all worked, on the first try.Before the eGPU, I would get 2 or 3 tokens per second output running on CPU Inference.After the config in this review, I get a solid repeatable 32 tokens per second output for a 13b parameter AI LLM.

It does exactly what it's supposed to do with a 3070 with the ally x. There may be some software installation required if you don't have the gpu software.
