Is good of value

After receiving the mic, I was immediately impressed by the packaging and the quality of the mic/accessories. It comes with a nice hard case for storage, along with a solid furry wind screen, 2 cables (one to be used for phone; 1 for DSLR), and 2 clips that you can attach to the microphone and cold shoe mount on a phone holder or DSLR. It also comes with a really nice mini tripod that includes a spring-loaded phone holder (which has a cold shoe mount on top). The tripod is nice and sturdy, and when the legs are closed it can be used as a nice way to shoot handheld video a bit steadier. While I haven't put it through heavy paces yet, I will say that my initial tests show very good audio quality. I recorded a couple of tests using the mic and the same audio, from the same location without the mic (just the phone mic). The clarity was good with the mic attached and much better than the mic built in to my iPhone 11 Pro Max. I'm looking forward to testing the mic on the laptop as well for video tutorials that I often do. Overall, I think this is a very good mic for the price and a great asset to a mobile journalist's toolkit, especially with all the accessories included. I will also say that this isn't the first mic I have purchased from Power DeWise and the company has been very responsive to questions, comments and concerns. One thing is to make sure you buy the 3.5mm to lightning adaptor if have a newer iPhone as it does not come with this. I would recommend this to anyone who uses mobile kits for basics of video storytelling.

The mic itself seems to be of very high quality and provides a vast improvement over the built-in mic on my phone. The included wind muff is very effective at removing unwanted wind noise - this itself turns up the production value greatly!I think my favourite feature is the tripod base/handle. This is of the highest quality, holds leg position at various angles and provides a very solid base. The best part is that I can attach it to some of my other equipment (longer extension poles, etc), and effectively create a very nice monopod-type accessory! This has been very helpful when used with my 360 cam since the tripod legs can be separated just slightly to minimize their visibility in NADIR viewpoint.All in all, this is a well made and useful kit, and is an important addition to my equipment.

I am a novice podcaster and initially thought about video options for my podcasts and this product was offered. Since it is designed for both use on a smart phone and a DSLR, it looked attractive.First off, the downside to recording audio is unwanted noise. This 'furry wind muff' is is really cool! It does it's job and eliminates much of the interference and provides a good, clear representation of audio for voice. I have not tried it for any music from instruments or anything like that. But, I can state that it is clear and allows for a decent audio for a pair of individuals speaking on a podcast. You don't need to 'eat the mic' for the audio to be decent quality. I am thinking of getting a second set up and using a splitter to double as a 'second' mic. It is more portable than some other podcasting mics and is good quality.One downside is the stand. It is not as user friendly as hoped, it does have an attachment that can easily be put onto other tripods but, for the costs of this kit, it is an incredible value. Packaged well and a nice presentation of case and attachments. It is portable and practical. Easy to drop into a backpack or briefcase.Great job PowerDeWise! I love your products. Still use the lavalier interview kit regularly. This is just another great tool for my podcasting.

I really liked the quality of the PowerDeWise lavalier mic I purchased from this company, so I decided to give a try to this new video mic for smartphones and DSLR. Here is what I found:I tested this with a Samsung S10 phone (current top-of-the-line phone from Samsung), a CHUWI dual android/windows 10, 12 inch tablet, and I repeatedly attempted to connect it to my professional Canon C100 Mark II (professional camera for 35mm documentary filming), a laptop, and a desktop computer.The microphone comes with a cell phone clamp, DSLR and smartphone adapter cables, 2 microphone mounts that adapt to a hot shoe on a camera or to the cell phone clamp, a PowerDeWise small metal tripod and a nice storage case that keeps everything organized.This cardioid microphone is advertised as able to connect to smartphones, tablets, DSLR cameras. It comes with a nice furry wind muff mic cover that offers protection against some of the common issues that happen when using these microphones. it's about 80mm x 20mm and plugs into a 3.5mm audio adapter hole. The advertised signal to noise ratio is 80 dB with a sensitivity of -42+/-1dB/0dB=1v/pa.1Khz. The frequency is 35-15Khz+/-3dB.I'm a mechanical engineer and I work in video and sound production since I work delivering online classes and youtube videos, and I thought this could be a good addition to my sound tools so I gave it a serious try (I spent 30 minutes just trying to make it work with my Canon C100 Mark II).This mic seems to be designed mostly for smartphone voice recording (Vlogging) because the recorded sound quality is perfect for video blog production when used in this way, and this is the only way I will use this microphone, since other tests didn't work too well. When used with a smartphone in a silent environment, the sound quality appears to be loud and clear without any distortions, cracks, or background hisses.So if you're looking for Vlogging from your smartphone this might be a good choice, provided you don't need a very long cable as both cables measure about 11 inches long, including the 3.5mm plug on one side; this cable will not work if you need to stretch the coiled wire for distance, because it will immediately disconnect from the back of the microphone, or it will partially come out which causes loss of sound. The other cable will not stretch at all and the distance is fixed. It would have been nice if the cable was a little longer, considering that it is advertised for PC use, and the very short cable makes it very difficult (or impossible) to use with a PC. I tried a 3.5 microphone cable extender that works with the PowerDeWise lavalier, but it didn't work with this microphone.My guess is that there is a design or functionality issue with the 3.5 cable that connects to the microphone. it detaches way too easily which results in sound problems, and having to scramble to reconnect, and restart the recording. Using this with a smartphone MUST be done with the provided clamp and tripod, or you will encounter occasional cracking sounds, and hissing issues that I encountered during my tests. I noticed during testing, that using the microphone to record audio (using my Samsung S10) in a busy environment causes a noticeable background hissing noise (i.e. in a busy train station, or in the train itself, even when it is not moving and there is no other noise nearby. Maybe adapter issue?).The good news is that In a silent location, and using a smartphone, it records voice and nearby sound loud and clear, with good quality that is acceptable for my sound production work, and there is no background noise or "hiss". I noticed the microphone greatly reduces environmental sound when used in this way (i.e. background music), allowing use of this microphone for good-quality voice recording, which is hard to find for a low price.While I liked the sound quality with my Samsung S10 smartphone in a controlled environment, I had several issues with other devices.When I tried to use the mic with the provided curly cable and a i5 Intel laptop (8th gen) and a I7 intel (9th gen) PC computer, using the provided cable didn't work. I tried the back and front microphone sockets, tried using a converter, etc, but I had no luck. I verified that my other PC microphone works well when I connect it to the soundcard mic holes for these devices, so it wasn't the computers. Sound worked fine with my other 3 microphones.Using the recommended (i tried both, just in case) curly cable, there is no sound being recorded, and I tried multiple applications, such as Camtasia professional, Adobe Captivate, and sound recorder. No sound came from multiple attempts to connect this to a PC. It didn't work, either, with my Canon C100 Mark II that has a 3.5 adapter intended for external microphones. Perhaps it may work with other cameras, but it didn't do it with very expensive professional documentary production equipment that work with other microphones (tested working with all my other microphones).Maybe a working adapter could resolve this issue, but I'm not aware of which adapter might fix the issues. Manufacturer: any suggestions?My final test was with a Chuwi Tablet, using the 3.5mm cable. This is an expensive dual windows 10 for tablet / android 12 inch tablet with acceptable performance and sound quality, and that competes with the Microsoft Surface device. The tablet did record sound when using this microphone, but it had a noticeable background hiss in a controlled, silent environment, and properly connected cables. The quality was not as good as my smartphone, but at least now I can record audio with the tablet if I so desire, provided that I take the final result into SoundForge and manually remove the background sound and do post-production sound work that is not needed when recording with a smartphone.Conclusion: great microphone if you want to get a cardioid Vlogging microphone and you own a decent quality smartphone. Since PowerDeWise advertises it for that purpose, my testing says that this will work great and if that's all you do, congratulations, this will get the job done and give you excellent results (just make sure the cable is well-connected otherwise you will have problems!). 4-5 stars for smartphone recording (with a decent smartphone). Only reason I don't give it 5 stars is the issues I experienced with all my other devices, since i was expecting it would work with them, and it didn't, or it worked with some sound quality issues.Other devices: it might work (or not), but there is clearly a compatibility or adapter issue that needs to be clarified and resolved. I can't recommend this microphone for other devices, due to the problems I encountered, that included total lack of functionality, or reduced quality when connecting to other devices. I would look carefully into the issue of the very short 11-inch cable disconnecting from the back of the microphone in presence of minor pulls, which makes it near to impossible to work with this microphone if there is movement (such as walking) and the included clamp is not being used. Use the clamp!I thank PowerDeWise for reaching out to me and giving me the opportunity to test the microphone. This is one of the few companies that will design working products that offer good quality at a reasonable price level that enables low-cost sound production for video blogging/recording using your smartphone. If that's where you want to be, give it a try, since this microphone will get the job done for Vlogging.Have a great day!
