My wife wanted to know why I was getting the mower out so early. Surely the grass didn’t need cutting? I explained that the first cut of the season always seems the hardest and I wanted to bite the bullet. Even worse, was the fact that last year my mower was decidedly off colour and was getting clogged up with grass after just a few yards. I knew that it couldn’t possibly be the blade as I had taken this off and sharpened it using my grindy- stone thingy similar to those we used to use in anatomy lessons to sharpen scalpels – us students, not being able to afford new blades of course. I knew that this meant I’d probably need a new mower but I thought maybe try a new blade as a last ditch attempt to save a few bob, and now I am so glad I did. As the photo shows, the old blade was very bent and out of shape. This of course, I now realise, was why it wasn’t cutting very well and why the mower was clogging up almost as soon as I switched it on. It might also explain why it was chopping the lawn up – ho hum.The replacement blade fitted my Bosch mower easily and without a problem. I made sure that the central bolt was as tight as I could get it, fitted the grass box, plugged it in and away we went. Well, what a revelation – who knew it just needed a new blade and of course it has saved me the cost of a new mower.The grass was nicely cut in no time and although at this time of year there’s a load of moss in the lawn rather than grass – the money I have saved in not needing to buy a new mower could be put towards either moss treatment or even one of those electric scarifier thingies that combs and rakes the lawn as it goes, dragging out all the moss and stuff that isn’t grass!So, a simple but worthy purchase delivered for a good price in no time by Spares2Go.
