I received this U-Bass on the day the tracking info said I'd receive it. It was shipped in a box three times the size of the instrument without a lot of padding but overall it looked great when I unpackaged it. To be honest this is a beautiful instrument and if it worked properly it would definitely be a 5 star purchase. Unfortunately, there was a problem with the pickup. The G, D, and A strings played fine and sounded great. But, the E string played at half the volume as the other three. However, when you press down on the E string where it rides across the saddle and goes into the bridge then its volume instantly increases to the same as the other three strings. I've been playing bass since 1976 and guitar since 1967 and have had numerous acoustic instruments that are amplified with a pickup so I know that the pickup is the problem. IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN AN EASY ISSUE TO RESOLVE HOWEVER IT WAS NOT! When I did the return/replace, there was no option to replace it... only return it for a full refund. So what??? They want me to send it back... wait for 7 days for the money to be refunded back into my account... and then turn around and order another one??? Um... I don't think so! I'll be headed to the UPS store to send it back first thing Monday morning and when I get my refund, I'll be buying another one... FROM SOMEPLACE ELSE!

I love this UBass! I have several full size electric basses and a full size acoustic bass, but I wanted something I could travel with and plink around with in bed or in my recliner. I have songs come into my head all the time and just want to figure out the fingering. This UBass helps me satisfy my urge to play anywhere. I've played several plugged and unplugged duets with my cello playing wife for for a few gigs. It's softer unplugged, but you can still get a good sound. Plugged into an amp, it sounds just like an upright bass. Great for Stray Cats stuff. The look: I got the zebra wood version and it is immaculately made. Even the inside is beautiful. This is not a slapped together, factory-made toy. It is a genuine workshop instrument made by real craftsmen. I'm a master woodworker and would spot any flaw instantly. I couldn't fine one anywhere, inside or out.The strings: The strings are an acrylic rubber composite that feels and sounds soft and rubbery. They take a bit of getting used to. I put a bit of Mother's carnauba wax (automotive wax) on the strings, just on the fretboard section. I wanted my left hand fingers to slide around easier. I kept the right hand section of the strings bare because I wanted my plucking fingers to grip better. The wax doesn't impact the tone of the instrument at all, as long as you don't put it on the right hand plucking section of the strings. Take care to not get the wax on the fretboard as you apply it or it will leave white wax in the fretboard grains.Like any stringed instrument, you will have to tune and retune a few times during the first week or two until your strings get settled, but mine leveled out pretty quickly. I was surprised at how well the rubber strings keep in tune. You can also use regular bass strings if you don't like the feel of the rubber. personally, I like them. The Case: Mine came with a really nice soft case. It's durable and well made. with a couple of zippered pockets. Great for traveling. It would even fit in a carry on compartment.Electronics: The tuner and controls work fine. the buttons are quite small, but that's not a bad thing. the low profile keep me from snagging on them and keeps the look nice and clean. It took me a minute to figure out that the tuner only works if you have something plugged into the jack. If you aren't plugged into an amp, you can make jumper out of and old cable end to plug in and tune if you are doing an unplugged song but want to use the tuner.Overall Satisfaction: Absolutely satisfied. I play it every day.

This is the best spending you can do for an instrument. Bass guitars are just too big, and the metal strings can be too rough and stiff to really get into. I absolutely love the size of this U Bass and the rubber strings. It's a total pleasure to play and I'm so grateful to have a way into learning Bass where I didn't before.

This Ubass is a lot of fun to play around on in the house. It is helping me learn fingering patterns and tonality while sitting just about anywhere where my electric bass is large enough to make that difficult. Plus, being acoustic I don’t have to wear headphones and plug in a device to hear it. The built-in tuner is a great add-on and it sounds great connected to a bass amp.
