When something is free, something is missing. My free paddle was missing the paddle grips to prevent blisters. Now is perfect, silicone and perfect sizing. 30mm for my standard paddle.

This style of grip is available through Amazon from many makers, including color options (I also got a cobalt blue one to match a paddle). They are attractive, comfortable to hold, and indestructible. Be aware they can be difficult to install; recommendation is to be liberal with liquid dish soap on the inside, and be patient.

I needed better traction & control on my carbon fibre paddle, my kayak gloves tend to slide a bit when wet, and gripping tighter was very tiring. The paddle shaft only has the slight texture of the carbon weave on a glossy exterior, and is too slick to go bare-handed.PROS- the silicon grip vs my kayak glove now creates superb grab, I don't have to crush the paddle shaft- there is a slight additional cushioning effect, making it feel quite comfortable- the black grip blends well with the black paddle shaft- the grip's not going anywhere now that it's in place- there are no flaws,cuts, or imperfections on either grip- good quality controlCONS- quite tough to slide the grip into position, even with the grip & shaft wet and me pushing (not pulling) the grip into place.- I only put one grip in place- on my dominant hand, the opposite shaft has a release button that is raised and would be another obstacle to slide over- make darn sure you're happy with your drip rings and change them out before the grip goes on!CONCLUSION- I should have waited until the first kayak trip, then slid the grip on while the paddle shaft was immersed in the lake/river water, it probably would have been easier- I only wanted a grip for my dominant hand. The other grip will be a spare. You only need to control the paddle angle with one hand. If you grip tightly with both hands, your arms will be mush. I'll beat you in a short race, a long race, and a race to hold and eat more hot dogs at the end of the day!Very happy to have the grips and anxious to try out some long trips this spring.

I used the suggested technique and submerged these in (very hot) water to get them to expand before attempting to install them (on paddle board paddles).Luckily the paddles I were using are smooth metal as I think you'd have real trouble installing these on anything else.One thing's for sure - I didn't need to go to the gym the day I installed these - that was enough of a work-out in itself.Now that they are on though they aren't going anywhere that's for sure and they are comfortable to use and as grippy as I could hope for with the spiral pattern thread/grip. Feel like a good quality grip to me.The black grip is nice on my paddles and overall happy with the item now it's on!4 stars from me.

I've been kayaking for a long time and mostly settled to using kayaking gloves for comfort while paddling. These grips are great for when it's hot and I really don't want to have to wear gloves. The have a pattern that keep your hands from slipping and the foam is squishy and comfortable. Love them!
