Does the job. Line level to mic level pad. Yes, you could make one, but this one is nicely set up and obvious to any other user who encounters it in your system

I have an Arrakis ARC-10 broadcast board that lacks insert functionality. I use two of these attenuators to knock the line-level output from my Behringer audio processing down to mic level or my board. They work great and the sound quality is fantastic. Happy with my purchase.

Bought two of these so the line out from my pro mixer can be fed into the XLR mic-in's of my Zoom H4n recorder. The Shure A15LA line-to-mic adapter cuts the signal by 50dB and only 50dB. That's too much attenuation. These Hosa's give me selectable 20dB, 30dB or 40dB of attenuation. Just right.I send 0dB tone from the mixer's line-out XLR through the Hosa attenuator set at -40dB, and adjust the H4n's input level until the VU reads -20dB on the H4n. This allows me to run the H4n's input at about 37 of its 100 units. If I set the Hosa to the -30dB switch position, the H4n's input level is at 5 units for the VU meter to read -20dB.At these settings, I get 20dB of headroom on the H4n to avoid distortion. I can safely run my mixer to bounce at 0dB and occasionally peak at +15dB or +20dB without fear of driving the H4n into distortion. This also does not require me to run the H4n's input up so high that I start getting noise. Using the Shure A15LA, I had to run the H4n at about 75 units...a little more than I wanted to.And considering I got two of these Hosa's delivered for the same price as one Shure attenuator, I consider this an excellent, high performance deal. The unit is 3/4" diameter and 3-1/2" long when installed, 4" overall (the female XLR connector extends past the main barrel 1/2"). The dB selector slide switch is easily moved. May want to tape or hot glue it in place so it doesn't move accidentally. (Hot melt glue works great for semi-permanent yet removable "locks" as it leaves no residue like tape. Also allows you to see the setting easily.)
