I've used these type of lockboxes for years and have a good deal of experience with various types. All things considered, this is the best such device I've had, aside from one tradeoff that may cause issues in some applications.Let's get that out of the way first off - this thing is BIG, easily twice the normal size. That's partly because of its weatherproof housing, partly because it has more buttons than usual allowing for a larger variety of possible codes, and partly because it's just plain big on the inside. There's no hiding this gadget - it's gonna be big and bold wherever you put it, which is both a plus and a minus.You could fit a hundred regular keys inside, or old-style historical extra-large keys, or electric remote fobs, or all of the above. Whatever you use it for will be perfectly protected from the elements. I wouldn't try actually submerging it underwater but otherwise it's basically indestructible.The basic mechanism of the locking system is just the same as every other similar lockbox - you use a small screwdriver to turn a dial on the back behind each button, to indicate whether that button is part of the code or not. Note that this means that the order of the code is irrelevant - 2584 is the same as 8542. And, each button can be used only once in the code. Again, they all work this way, so nothing strange here.Most lockboxes of this type have fairly weak plastic buttons. This has large metal ones that should last a lifetime. The only disappointment is that the buttons only have numbers on them, not letters phone-style, so your codes can only be numeric plus * and # .I tested pushing buttons both set and unset, and I was not able to tell by feel which ones were part of the code, so that seems reasonably secure - no lucky guessing!One other nice feature is that the latch mechanism is a twist dial, not the usual spring-loaded release. That's helpful, because it means that the lock won't automatically re-lock itself when you let go of it - you can open the hatch, remove the key, make sure it properly opens the door, put the key back in the box, close the hatch, and re-lock it, without having to either hold the spring-release down the whole time or re-enter the code again.The version I tested is designed to be screwed to a fixed point such as a wall, but there's another realtor-style version that hooks on your doorknob.Not only is this better than other similar lockboxes I've used, I believe it is considerably cheaper as well. Strongly recommended!
