It's almost impossible to find an old fashioned stainless steel caliper at a reasonable price, so most, like this one are plastic. Build quality on this unit is very good. Once it is zeroed out with a button push, you can slide it like any conventional caliper to take your measurements. The digital readout is very nice, and I used this to replace a more expensive Swiss-made plastic unit with an analog dial. Checking between the two I find this model by Frankford is very consistent.It comes in a nice durable case, and even has a spare button cell battery. Very thoughtful design. I've purchased other Frankford products, and like those, this one strikes a nice balance between functionality, affordability, and decent quality.If you want a digital read out, a sturdy caliper, and don't want to pay an arm and a leg, this is a very nice choice.
