I bought this plunge base to use with my Festool 18v cordless tool but the piece/adaptor that fits to the head of the tool wouldnt fit the openimg is about 3mm to narrow.I bought mine off Amazon Warehouse so i didnt want to return it as the correct one was much more expensive.I used a dremel tool and a file and slowly increased the size of the adaptor hole until it fitted over the head of the tool ,i then had to reduce the lenght of the plate where the screw holes are located with a grinder the adaptor then fitted onto the head of my tool. All i did after that was in order to get the adaptor to work in alingment with plunge base i had to put 2 small washers between the adaptor and the tool head, i also put a small piece of Gorrila tape between the front of the tool where the button is located on the adaptor because i used the two washers between the adaptor plate and the tool i had to get two longer screws as the ones provided ended up being too short. The whole process took me about 2 hours and that was taking my time i saved over 100 euros plus by buying this one ,Im a diyer who likes good tools so it was certinley worth my while !!!! works perfectly

I've been talking to the Fein reps at trade shows for the last two years and they keep saying they are going to be bringing out their own version of the plunge base. I finally got tired of waiting and bought the Festool base. It's obvious that Festool licenses the head design form Fein since the tapped holes line up perfectly for their base. There are a few things to note if you are going to marry these together. 1. The protrusion behind the head on the belly of the tool needs to be ground down, I used a sander to remove the excess plastic. 2. The adapter ring needs to be spaced out from the body, I used 3 washers for each machine screw as spacers. Two washers was enough to get the clearance I needed but the additional washer gave me the right distance to align the offset blades with the plunge base magnet. Two more things to mention: 1. I first tried using cap screws to attach the two, this didn't work because the cap screws heads were too tall and interfered with putting the accessories on the ring. I wound up using two Phillips head machine screws (metric) 2. there seems to be some variation between various vendors on how much offset there is in their blades. some blades with a greater offset will be like one of the other reviewer's video and stand proud of the magnet in the base until it's plunged. Other blades fit perfectly with the spacing I've provided.I agree with the other reviewers it is pricey. But if you're buying a Festool tool you expect that.

This review is for the Festool 500251. The 500251 is a kit made up of two attachments that can also be purchased separately. One attachment is the plunge cut base (Festool 500161) and the other is the depth stop (Festool 500160). You save about $30 buying this kit versus the two attachments individually. Overall this is a very well made kit. The plunge cut base is very well made and is all metal. It is spring loaded with the springs providing good resistance. If there is any down side, it is that there is no depth stop adjustment in the plunge cut base itself nor can you attach both the plunge cut base and the depth stop to the tool at the same time. The depth stop attachment itself is also very well made with only two minor negative points to mention. The first is that the angle of the depth stop can only be adjusted and locked in at thirty degree increments. There are positive lock notches on the black semi circle part of the stop (which itself attaches to a mounting collar which is attached to the tool - this collar is visible attached to the plunge cut base in the picture). These notches lock at zero, thirty, sixty and ninety degree increments in either orientation). You CAN NOT lock this tool at a 45 degree angle. IMO, the notches should have been cut to allow for fifteen degree increments which would have afforded a lock point for a 45 degree cut. This may be a non-issue to anyone else considering the purchase of this product but I thought I would mention it.The second negative point to mention with regard to the depth stop is that the black semi circle mount is plastic. In an of itself, the plastic appears sturdy but, since this is where all the action for this attachment happens, I can see the potential for failure. This point is (IMO) the weak point for accidental drops or even for accidentally being stepped on if it is removed and set aside. Again, this may be a non-issue to many but I thought it worth mentioning for this review. Beyond that, the depth adjustment happens via a button and gear teeth machining on the depth rod and depth shoe. This is a positive lock mechanism that does not require tools for adjustment. The entire depth stop removes from the mount collar (permanently attached to the tool via two screws) by turning it to align two arrows. The mechanism then just slides off. No tools required.BONUS REVIEW FOR FEIN OSCILLATING TOOL OWNERS:I actually purchased these attachments to go along with a newly purchased Fein 350Q. I had read somewhere that these attachments where compatible and so I bought them. For the 350Q, I would say that these attachments are only partially compatible. This is because the casing is different from the Festool oscillating tool design. The screw holes to mount the collar do indeed line up and the collar itself fits on the tool however, the base of the collar where the screws are needs to be shaved off by about three millimeters. You also do not get full range of angular adjustments (one orientation only) from the depth stop because the rod can end up hitting the case. For the 350Q, Fein not only increased the motor power but redesigned the case to have small isolation dampers at the points where the case mounts to the motor. This is the reason that although the attachments technically fit, they aren't a perfect fit with the case inhibiting the full range of possible adjustment.FOR FEIN 250Q OWNERS: I tested the depth stop system with a friend's Fein 250Q and the mounting collar and depth stop attachment are completely compatible with no case interference issues. I did not test the plunge cutter but I would think it would also fit without issue. I read some place that Festool and Fein supposedly teamed up to design their oscillating tools and that is the reason these parts fit together perfectly for this model tool.Despite the overall very good quality of these attachments, I knocked off one star for the two perceived negative quality points of the depth stop design and for the cost. At $165, despite being really good quality, these two attachments are almost as much as an entire oscillating tool and that seems a bit excessive for what they are.
