I bought this to use on a snare drum for jazz gigs where I use brushes a lot. It's not ideal, its just too smooth to get much volume out of the brushwork. Ended up buying coated Aquarian head which is really good for brushes. note: it may be great for regular snare use or tom use, just not good for brushes.

Great head. I play mainly jazz, and the texture is great for brushes - not scratchy, but a smooth swish. I would describe the surface as something similar to a ping pong ball - just barely textured, but enough to provide good sound for brushes. Sticking is quick and responsive. The surface does get marked and dirty quick, but that's only cosmetic, the roughness remains the same. I'm liking this head a lot.

Cercavo un suono squillante e con molte armoniche. Ecco la pelle giusta. Montata sul mio rullante Yamaha Maple Custom serie 11000 14x5.5 e accordato bello alto produce un suono secco e forte ma non completamente privo di bassi.In registrazione ho notato una cosa che non mi aspettavo: colpito con poca forza mantiene un suono morbido adatto a pezzi soft e forse anche a ballate, mentre con colpi forti e centrali il suono è secco da beat/funk. Una versatilità che non mi sarei aspettato.Due "difetti": il primo - da verificare - è che probabilmente la durata della sabbiatura non è equivalente ad una Evans G o similari; sembra un trattamento piuttosto delicato. Staremo a vedere. Il secondo è che va usato con grande precisione perchè il minimo scostamento dal centro comporta notevoli variazioni timbriche.

La pelle é risultata perfetta per il mio rullante Hollywood vintage, avevo fatto fatica precedentemente a trovare una pelle che andasse bene per questo vecchio strumento che ha forse il fusto un po' più spesso degli altri ( le normali pelli Remo non si potevano montare perché l'inserto in alluminio era troppo stretto rispetto al fusto).La pelle é molto sottile e la sabbiatura sembra un po' delicata.Non posso giudicare la durata perché é montata su un tamburo che uso pochissimo, ma non mi sembra adatta per generi più "rumorosi" e sembra che perda un po' di sabbiatura ad ogni colpo.Come timbro per il mio gusto é perfetta per un tamburo da orchestra.

Good fast service and good Quality

For many years I have had a set of LP timbales that I play almost daily. They still had the original LP heads. You know how things can slowly degrade over time in such a way that you don't really notice it? Well, somehow changing timbale heads got on my to do list. I did a little Internet research and found a host of different thoughts on the subject. I even considered natural goat or calf skin. Very old school. These J1 heads sound really good. The highs are crisp and cutting and the low drum (the macho or hembre or something or other) sounds really rich sonorous. Funny thing, at the school that I teach at I use a different set if LP timbales with the original heads. Now I am finding those heads woefully inadequate.

I replaced an older, non-etched drum head with this one. I love it! The sound is crisp when you need it, and deliciously raspy the rest of the time... Good quality, great sound. What more can one say?
