This is a system to learn the whole neck for soloing., focusing on the blues scale. It is written in a very easy to follow way. You can also download example mp3 files and backing tracks for free

First of all sorry for my English, maybe not perfect.I'm already a professional guitar player and teacher, and I was looking for something to improve my country vocabulary. Chapters are organized according to musician, with in depth analysis of licks, always referring to the CAGED system (I really appreciate this thing, since modern guitar teaching is based on this approach). For each Country guitar hero, there is a brief introduction about his life, works, influences and style, and the books often recall this influences between authors. Great works! From a teaching perspective is perfect!Downloadable audio are very useful and gives clear idea of the starting tempo, and most important the goal-tempo.I think I'm going to buy some other book from this author!

For the cultural value alone, this books earns its 5 stars. You can clearly tell this was written by someone with a passion for the instrument, the players AND the style. The licks are far from being the same old bland sounding licks you get everywhere, and you can still use them in any country style context as adaptation is covered too. Honestly, one of the best guitar tuition books I've read in a LONG time... and I've been playing for over 30 years and I'm a guitar educator myself, just new to country style guitar, and I wanted to find a cool, smart introduction to country style lead playing that goes well beyond the basics and this totally delivers. It's also a smart approach to analyse the context of the licks to enable the reader to create their own content later on if they're at that point in their development. Highly recommended.

I am following Levi for years already. For me, as a rock/fusion guitarist who just wants to scratch the surface of country guitar soloing, seems this book to be the right choice because Levi knows how to explain anything to his students. Also the TABs are very good quality, which is not surprise, since Levi is doing that for living and he is well know for it over the world.

Here is a great collection of country licks organized by presenting five licks by each of twenty well-known country guitarists. Levi Clay, the author, has collected a variety of different licks showcasing the many techniques and musical styles developed by musicians like Brent Mason, Jerry Reed, Chet Atkins, and Brent Mason, to name a few. There are lots of names I had heard of, yet more than a few were new for me.The licks are easy to read and laid out well. They are presented in both standard notation and tablature, and the book includes a chapter on downloading the audio examples as well. The audio examples are presented at two speeds where necessary. For full disclosure, I don't have a huge knowledge of country music or the guitarists that play it. Mr. Clay's book is perfect for a country neophyte like myself. The twenty chapters on selected artists present a brief biography of each player, presenting information on style, gear and recordings. This is a wonderful tool as the author emphasizes the need to 'hear' the music in order to fully digest it. There is also a useful chapter on a system to learn and memorize licks which incorporates the CAGED system.Standing head and shoulders above your average 'licks' collection, this book gives vocabulary, but also shows the reader how to use the licks by providing harmonic examples over which each lick can be used. The author concludes the work with a solo which combines elements presented throughout the book.Overall, a great book with a huge potential to improve anyone's musical vocabulary. Highly recommended.

Amazing book with an extensively useful, well explained licks in the style of so many different players. I just tried a whole bunch of them cover to cover and am very impressed with the attention to detail that Levi has put it in (but of course!)The best part about this book is the explanations about the licks, how to use and expand them as well as the brief but insightful biography of each important country guitar hero covered. Love the clearly notated licks, with the slides, bends, hammer-ons and pull-off clearly notated and easy to read (though not necessarily easy to play at tempo). The audio examples are very cool too with Levi playing the lick slowly and then at performance tempo. In short, this book is a great resource and I look forward to many hours of practice with this. If you're into country guitar but don't know how to start sounded more legit, get this book now.
