This is a review of "Pair of Black Self Locking Gate Latch Automatic Gravity Lever for Wood Fence Gate, Door Latches Steel (Spring Cable Pull)"So when I ordered these I actually thought that I was ordering a pair of latches similar to one I already have on a side gate to the house.They look largely the same - and seem to be well-manufactured and finished - but, whereas my existing latch has a flat pad to be finger/hand operated, these have a thing drilled ridge, through which you are supposed to attach a wire loop (supplied) to be inserted through a drilled hole in the gate. This seems to be an unnecessary faff to me and yet, if I don't use the wire, I am left with the narrow metal ridge to operate the mechanism.I am not convinced - I think I will try one out by actually installing it but I foresee a replacement with the more conventional design of latch.- - - - - - - - - -Note: As a member of the Vine program I was supplied with this item free of charge. I have to admit it took me a good few minutes with the aid of the product information pictures to work out how the spring and wire side of this works. Every similar latch I've ever had simply has a little tab on the mechanism that you reach over the gate to operate. I can see how being able to pull a loop of wire instead is a pretty good alternative and its especially helpful if you have a high gate with a latch the other side and you aren't particularly tall. It does however mean that you need to drill a hole for the wire through your gate post, in my case the one of my gates has posts that are 6 inches thick which adds to the job a little bit.I like the fact you could pop a padlock onto the latch for extra security. These aren't bad at all if you want or need the wire operating side of things although I do wonder about the longevity of it. Chances are you will eventually end up reaching over the gate to open the latch I suspect.

Perfect for the job. Easy to install and I am v very pleased with the items. Good value for money.
