This is a great device, you do need to know that a very strong electromagnetic field within a few inches may cause it register large amounts of false readings such as an iPhone charger. This is minor, I own two other classic geiger tube radiation detectors and after 24 hours they are all within 5% of each other for background radiation which indicates an excellent unit. Do be aware that a classic Geiger tube for background radiation is about 10 times more sensitive. Typically background radiation exists in the realm of 15 to 25 CPM (depending on where you live at what elevation and so on). This unit will register about 1 to 2 CPM per minute versus a classic tube, at the higher end that vanishes and the unless you have a Geiger tube design for very high readings this unit will have an advantage. The battery lasts forever. I would purchase another one in the future.

What a strange item to buy, well, I say buy, it was part of the Amazon Vine program, where we are gifted the item and in return we have to give a full and honest review of it.well, how do you review something that you have no idea if it is actually working properly or not, as it is, I got this for my dad, who lived about three miles away from the Sizewell A, B and now C power stations, I have family that work on the sites as well, so being prepared is a must these days as you really never know.It comes in a rather sturdy case, with the unit set inside a lot of foam rubber to keep it safe and sound, there is a very long cable and a rather large manual, when the unit is first turned on it goes straight to the "measure" screen which straight away gives you a reading of radiation detected in real time and the dose rate per hour and for the total time of the measurement period, so very detailed. The rates generally stay the same unless you put it near something that might cause it to rise a little, I have had a play, and found the AEG unit to be very well made, quite sturdy and well put together, it is concise, gives you all the info you could require and I suppose for the price, which would have been around the £60 mark, is not bad, and good when you remember what it is to be used for. When my dad has his birthday, he will be getting this, and I know he will enjoy using it everywhere he goes, as he like gadgets, and this one is very applicable for the location he lives.I am very happy with the unit, it works well, seems to be very well made, and is a quality brand, I am very happy and will easily recommend this to anyone that may be after such an item.

THIS IS A DOSE METER. I write that in full capitals because it makes this device so much more useful!I work in the industrial construction industry, mostly within older constructions. As such there are often testers and a lot of unknown hazards within my workplaces. Having this thing on my person periodically fills me with so much confidence. My first day using it I actually found a piece of hazardous waste in a normal garbage bin, saving from a potentially dangerous scenario or costly fine to my employers. The biggest feature of this to me though is that it's a dose metre. I work 12hr shifts, so I can throw it in a pocket and forget about it all day whilst it pays attention to not only the radiation I am receiving at any particular moment, but my total radiation for the day!The interface is nice and easy to use with a simple user manual providing more than enough information. Literally my only disappointment is that it doesn't work for gamma radiation. That being said if you are working around gamma radiation you will likely be required to wear an industry standard dosage metre anyway.I can very willingly recommend this product seeing as it has not only actively protected me once already, it did so without me having to spend hours researching and setting up a complicated and costly device. Just bare in mind it does't work for gamma radiation!

This review evaluates the “Radar-5633 Rechargeable Portable Nuclear Radiation Detector with LCD Screen” made by AEGTEST.The product was shipped with no excessive or wasteful packaging. What’s in the box: one (1) Geiger Counter radiation detector, one (1) USB-A to USB-C charging cord, one (1) wrist lanyard, one (1) hard plastic injection molded padded case, zippered carrying case, and a user manual. This meter has many uses: There are many industrial processes that use radiation sources for detection and measurement. It is good to check radiation levels to ensure that equipment and shielding are working within safe parameters. Also, if the world goes awry and they drop “the big one” descending us to a post-apocalyptic dystopian world, you will be well equipped for measuring radiation-free safe zones to live.First impressions: The overall quality of this EMF meter is excellent, with a durable, hard ABS plastic casing with non-slip side grips. The unit sports a large 1.93”, easy-to-read backlit colour TFT LCD screen. The unit is powered by an internal USB-C rechargeable lithium-ion battery that has an impressive 18-day runtime. The unit comes equipped with a low battery indicator, and the unit can automatically be set to adjustable power conservation measures (Auto power off, screen dimming, back-light sleep). The unit comes with a hard plastic carry case and a handy wrist lanyard. The unit fits nicely and ergonomically in your hand with nice non-slip grips on both sides of the unit. The unit is simple to operate: press the ON/OFF button, and the unit turns on, calibrates, and the LCD display shows its status. The unit automatically starts measuring background radiation levels. The unit records the current dose rate and accumulated total dose level. The display also has a colour horizontal bar graph (similar to what you see with a microphone) indicating the approximate strength of the radiation detected. The unit deploys the following colour-coded scale warnings: Low/Safe Level (Green), Slight/Elevated (Yellow), Severe/High Level (Orange), and Over/Off Scale (Red) visual warnings as well as a changing, intensive audible beeping. There is also a visual flashing red LED warning when acceptable radiation thresholds have been exceeded. Overall, I found the unit easy to use and accurate (from what I could tell). One thing that I really liked was a nicely sized (both in physical size and print size) and thoroughly written owner’s manual. Unfortunately, these days, most imported products have horribly written instructions or none at all!The only negative thing I found and improvement I can suggest is that the meter stores up to 100 records before it rewrites over the oldest record, with no way to download any historic data. I would recommend adding USB-C data download capability.Since I am evaluating this product as part of the Amazon Vine program, I am limited to a 30-day window to submit a review. To determine long-term meter durability and accuracy, I intend to monitor this product over the next 12 months. Should anything change over this period, I will update this review accordingly.Cost-effectiveness and value: Overall, I am satisfied with the product; it is compact, portable, and easy to use. It is great for checking work environments for excessive radiation that can be potentially hazardous to your health. At a current price of $69.99 plus a 10% off coupon, I think it is fairly priced for the quality and functionality delivered. In summary: the “Radar-5633 Rechargeable Portable Nuclear Radiation Detector with LCD Screen” made by AEGTEST is well-made, compact, accurate, and easy to use. It delivers all this at a price that is gentle on your wallet. I would recommend this product without reservation.Pros 👍:✔ Well made from quality materials.✔ Ergonomic with non-slip grips, making it easy to hold.✔ Large 1.93” easy-to-read backlit colour TFT LCD display.✔ Very easy to set up and use – Automatic measurement.✔ Measures current/total Beta, Gamma, and X-ray radiation levels.✔ Colour and bar graph visual warnings, Audible increasing intensity beeping warning.✔ Bar graph indicating the approximate intensity.✔ Low battery alert and adjustable auto power-off function.✔ Powered by an internal USB-C rechargeable lithium-ion battery with an 18-day runtime.✔ Comes with a sturdy hard plastic padded case and a handy lanyard.✔ Great price point, good value.Cons👎:✘ Stores up to 100 records before it rewrites over the oldest record. There is no way to download the data history for permanent records.Manufacturer Suggestions 🖐:✔ Add data download capability.

Wow. I got this geiger counter for free, but it's well worth the $46 it's going for right now. Frankly, it seems like a much higher value.Full disclosure: I have no reason to own a geiger counter. I am an engineer but not that kind. This DOES scratch several itches for me though. I love: science gadgets/test equipment, highly portable said gadgets, gadgets that come in kaizen cases that are just the right size, quality accessories, the list goes on.The device feels substantial in the hand, not cheap. The buttons are firm tactile switches, not membrane, which is a huge plus. The button travel is a little deep, but I don't mind since you know for sure when it clicks. It has USB-C and the C-port on my suped up GaN power supply recognizes it, which is rare for a lot of C devices I get from amazon. I usually have to switch to the USB-A port if the device comes with an A-to-C charging cord. Oh, speaking of, the charging cord that comes with this is premium! It's a nice, thick, braided one.The menu has many more options than I would have predicted. It's not overwhelming at all though. They stuck with all the useful stuff like volume, chirp toggle, scheduling, history, brightness, etc. Again, I can't say enough good things about my first experience. That said, I have no clue how accurate this thing is. I did see a slight drop from 7uR/h to 4uR/h when I walked down to my basement which is almost completely below ground. However, it went back up to 7 after a short time. Houses aren't great radiation barriers, though mine was built in the early cold war era, you'd think they'd at LEAST have lead lined the subfloor. Sheesh!Anyway, I also tried touching it to a couple smoke detectors, but the shielding inside them must be too good. I didn't even get a blip. I would take one apart and update my review, but I just showed my kids a documentary on the demon core. Sooooo, I don't want to. I mean, it's only a little americium, but I've had a whole bunch of x-rays and sunburns over the years. I also like to press my face up against the microwave to watch my food heat up. I don't need more exposure.Note: the screen in my pictures is not damaged. I picked at the corners of the protector and smushed it back. It wasn't time to peel yet. I'll feel it when I'm ready for the commitment.
