I've now purchased 5 of these nutcrackers as gifts for others and for my own use. They are ideal for large and hard-to-crack nuts like walnuts. The lever-type action allows the walnut shells to be shattered when you quickly rotate the lever, then you simply pick up all the meat from the nut. I have a tree which produces over 200 lb of nuts/year, and this device is a game changer to process lots of nuts.

Breaks nuts and is great fun too

I have a pecan tree in my front yard and had a bumper crop this past year. Been working my way through about 8-10 gallon buckets of nuts, but since I purchased this cracker I'm making progress at about 4x the speed of before, and getting a whole lot more unbroken halves.I've seen some complaints about the amount of force required, but the secret I've discovered is that it works best if you adjust for the size of each nut, so that the handle is about 45 degrees from vertical, then press down the remaining 15 to 20 degrees to the stop and that will sufficiently crack the nut. It doesn't require a lot of arm strength that way, and you don't shatter the nut into lots of tiny crushed bits. The threaded adjuster makes it easy to adjust down or up for smaller or larger nuts in just a few seconds, then crack it, and separate the meats from the shell.Freeing all the meat sometimes takes a little more effort to peel away the shell, and maybe a little more cracking, but I'm still very happy with the results compared to the old style nutcracker I used to use. Looking forward to lots of pecan pie in my future!
