Great cupboard once built, found it a bit of a pain to assemble

Perfect bbq storage place

I've put this cupboard in my cellar where I needed some storage, but it's prone to flooding/damp when it rains (I live in an old cottage) and having wood furniture down there just isn't practical as it rots.It took me and my father around half an hour or assemble it and the instructions were clear and easy to follow - although it's definitely easier with two people.It's sturdy and went together well....mostly. It did require a little bit of fettling but nothing major.It's been down there for several weeks now and I did coat the legs with some waterproof paint seal to prevent any potential rusting - and so far so good.It's a versatile storage solution that is reasonably priced - it's stylish yet functional.I'm pretty pleased with it.

Thus was relatively simple to assemble, although I found it much easier once I’d got some help from my wife. It’s straightforward but some of the fittings and screws are fiddly to get to. You also have to hold some parts in place when you’re also inserting some of the fixings: on your own this can be quite a frustrating experience.The thing is solid enough once assembled, however it is a fairly thin gauge steel so it requires the overall strength of the complete unit to maintain its rigidity. That’s not a negative as it’s just a consequence of using this material.My main reason for giving four not five stars is the lack of attention to detail considering the price of the cabinet. It’s over £100 and for that I’d expect holes to line up with each other and screws and bolts to go through without any problems. That wasn’t the case with the one I received: I built it relatively quickly, but for this amount of money I’d have expected it to be a little more precise in terms of manufacturing tolerances. Two orphan holes on one of the spars had me worrying that I’d missed a step: it took me a few minutes rereading the plans to convince myself that I hadn’t missed anything and that the holes were drilled either by mistake or to make that part suitable for another part of the range.In summary I’d say it’s a good cabinet that has a slight retro feel to it, but I don’t think it’s worth the money when you consider the alternatives.
