I debated which mic to buy for weeks before purchasing the Perception 220, largely based on reviews posted here. I'd previously used a Shure SM58, but it wasn't as responsive as I'd expected so I looked into condenser mics. And I'm so pleased I did; this mic is exactly what I needed!I sing jazz, blues and soul, and this mic suits me perfectly. It picks up every nuance of my voice (so makes perfecting vocals that much easier) and has two switches to remove feedback and background noise when recording. It's rugged (so very heavy for something so small) and comes with a metal case and suspension cage to prevent vibrations, so it's great for gigging as well as studio use.The only fault I can find is that the pale blue, matt finish is easily marked by the cage, which leaves dark lines around the mic when they come into contact - although, had I set it up myself (instead of allowing my son to do it), I'd have been more careful and this may not have happened. A different surface, however, would prevent such issues. But, overall, I'm still very happy with my purchase. The Tiger mic stand (also available from Amazon) works very well with this mic - and a pop-shield can easily be attached. Regarding suitable mixers, I'm using the Behringer Xenyx 1002C, which arrived when I ordered the 1002B (from Amazon).4.5 Stars

I can't speak with much experience behind me but here's what I can say;I set out to start my recording hobby with a budget of $250, and after reading every review on every site on every mic, I finally decided after months of research on this one..and I do not regret it! Quite simply, it does what a microphone was meant to do..it records the sound like you hear it, a nice clean slate ready for mixing or just as is.Here's what I've noticed about this guy;-it's got some weight to it, 'does not feel cheap at all-the switches make getting the right sound a breeze-the blue color is just cool..-the XLR connection is sturdy-it's got to be worth at least twice it's price-the shock-mount is metal and strong and locks the mic onto it-the mount also has an adapter in it for a smaller mic stand or somethingI recommend this to anyone on a budget, any podcaster, guitarists..vocalists..anything. I plan on completing my Perception collection with the rest of the line and I suggest you start yours here!..I also recommend a Mogami XLR cord to go with it, I got mine from MusiciansFriend.com becuase I read some scary counterfeit reviews on here and didn't want to risk it. I run the P220 through the Mogami to an ART USB Dual Pre..I think that's a great setup for a beginner.
