I felt lucky when the dealer only quoted me ten times the cost of this ignition barrel for the parts and the job - when this broke I just assumed it would be a huge job. Turns out the real luck was that they couldn't get the parts for a week, leading to a bit of idle Googling, leading to me buying this. Next day delivery and only ten percent of the cost. Took about half an hour to fit. This fits a lot of vehicles that are not in the product description - check out the parts numbers and equivalents. These destructions will work on several vehicles but come from doing this on a Dacia Logan MCV (2014). Tools used: Mole grips, torx screwdriver.1 - Dismantle dash: remove dash cover (two torx screws under the steering wheel - once they're out it just unclips) and slide off plastic ring around key slot. Then remove the black ring/sheath with the little box on top and wires coming out the back (this is your immobiliser - don't knacker it. In fact don't even unplug it. Your car will not start if you break this). There's a tab that helps it clip on to the ignition barrel, if you have to persuade it hard, then you're persuading it too much. Once you've got it out, it should dangle perfectly happily or sit on the steering wheel out of the way.2 - Improve access: Release the steering wheel positioning thingy. Pull the steering wheel all the way down. Then remove the right-hand washer stalk (two bright silver torx screws on the right-hand edge of the plastic mess behind the wheel). You may as well leave it plugged in and just pop it to one side.3 - Remove security bolt: this bolt is a sod. If you look at the underneath of the barrel you will see it is mounted into a square steel sheath. There is a silver button poking through. Directly opposite this, on the top, is the security bolt. When it's installed it has a head that you can grip with a spanner, once it is fully tightened this shears off. The remainder is domed to stop people taking it out quickly when trying to steal your car. You can either drill it out, try a bolt/screw extractor, or -hopefully- get it with mole grips. It's a horrible job. I placed one hand around the barrel to hold down the grips to stop them sliding up the dome of the bolt, tightened onto the bolt, and got about a quarter turn a time. This bolt is the reason why it wasn't a ten-minute job.4 - Unwire: Grip the short side of the red slidey thing twixt thumb and forefinger. Slide back while pulling the wire connector out of the back of the barrel assembly.5 - Remove old barrel assembly: Place the key in the lock, turn it to position one or two. Depress the silver thingy opposite the hole that you've just taken the bolt from. Pull the barrel assembly out.6 - Do this in reverse with the new one. I didn't bother replacing the bolt. It rattles a bit and is now easier to disable the steering lock. Take your risk as you see fit.7 - Replace your key blades: Turn your old key over. Unscrew the single screw. Grab the key blade and pull out. place the new one in and replace the screw. Your immobiliser chip is in your old key assembly and you will not be able to start the vehicle with the new key blade alone. If you want to use the shiny new key shell then you will have to move the chip over too.Don't throw your old blades away. They still work the door locks and boot. Think about getting them mounted in another key shell.
