I should have been less casual about the diameter. This shade is too small for a primary ceiling light. After a month, I gave up and looked more closely at Amazon's listings. Indeed, they did have a much larger, more appropriate, shade available. It's not quite the quality of the 19"+ one I originally bought, but there's a spare included. Just right, now.
