They don’t seem to last like they used to.

I’ve been doing stained glass for 50 years and these are my favorite cutters. They used to be $1 each. This is a crazy price. Look elsewhere. They used to be made in Germany. They are as good or better than any of the other types. I have them all. And I used to teach stained glass and these are the cutters I gave my students. NEVER PRACTICE ON ACTUAL STAINED GLASS. Go to a hardware store and buy a dozen 10” by 12” or so sheets of 1/16” plain window glassLike any other tool, you must practice and the cutters must be resting in a small jar with a cushion of like 6 ply ply paper towel soaked with 3 in 1 oil and kerosene, a thimbleful of kerosine and a 1/2 teaspoons of oil. Then, when you go to cut the glass, you must first use a 1/4 inch really cheap brush to brush it on the glass where you’re gonna cut. Your forefinger goes in the notch and your hand wraps around the cutter. You should be standing about a foot from the table the glass is on AND the glass needs to be cushioned by a 1/4” of carpet or a used cloth bath mat. Then keep your arm STRAIGHT right up to the shoulder and apply good pressure a move the cutter down the glass with the cutter at 90° to the glass. NEVER, NEVER GO BACK AND GO OVER A CUT. WHEN YOU ARE CUTTING CORRECTLY YOU HEAR A SWEET SOUND CALLED “The cry of the glass!” Then you push away the oil from the cut to see the score line at the bottom the glass sheet. Then grip each side of the score line with your thump on top and forefinger underneath the glass and snap each moving down and away from the cut.Stained glass is f’n hard. It’s one of the hardest crafts so don’t expect easy. And keep bandaids and alcohol pads near you. This is a hobby that makes you bleed. Look, you’re dealing with f’n sharp glass. But all stained glass craftspeople always have a bunch of cuts. Get used to it. GOOD LUCK!
