I haven't had the need to scale fish in many years. However, I've decided to start catching and keeping some bluegill and so I wanted some fish scalers. I ordered these because they're stainless steel and they looked like they would do a good job. The teeth on them are sturdy enough to scale the freshwater fish that I will be using them on. I also like the fact that they have a loop on end so I can hang them or attach a tether. I didn't really like a stainless steel handle because of how slick they can get when they are wet so I ended up putting some heat shrink over the handles which has worked out perfectly.

They come with blue, protective film on the outer blade that is not easy to totally remove; I'll need to use tweezers to get the little blue bits removed where the blade enters the handle. To leave the protective film on after manufacturing, and before packaging, seems a little silly, as the inner part of the blade has no protective film, and came scratched-up out of the bag. They're going to get scratched-up using them, anyway. A magnet sticks to the blades, as well as the tether/hanging loop, which means it is unlikely that they are made, as advertised, of stainless steel. A magnet does not stick to the handles, but they also do not have any kind of "anti-slip texture," as advertised. The scalers are lightweight, and feel sturdy enough. I'm sure they will scrape scales better than the soup spoons I've used for decades, but which I know are stainless steel and won't rust. Only time and use will tell if these will rust.

Works well on all types of fish. Makes scaling fast and easy!!
